Our Mission
Can Be Yours

Ignite and inspire the lives of Kenyan children, enabling them to achieve their full potential.

Bright Light Academy’s mission is to support vulnerable  and orphaned children from impoverished families in our nearby community, Wakondo/Rusinga East, providing them with educational opportunities they might not otherwise have.

Bright Light is known to be a special place of learning. Currently, when our students graduate the transition at that age into the Kenyan government’s public school system can be overwhelming. Classes are large, the student teacher ratio is high, many rural area schools remain underfunded with study materials in short supply, and some schools are too far away for very young Rusinga children to walk to. While the Kenyan government supports free primary education, marginalized communities do not benefit because resource allocation is not always uniform around the country. Levies and charges for food, books, supplies and uniforms are often beyond the means of many Rusinga parents. When some of our students leave Bright Light, they will leave their education behind.

What Our Students Need in a Rapidly Evolving World

With the planned expansion of our elementary school through grades four, five and six, students will continue their education for another three years in a safe and nurturing environment.
Bright Light’s teachers maintain rigorous academic standards, as demonstrated by the high
scores consistently achieved by our third-grade graduates in the Ministry of Education’s
national exams.

Our higher grade classes will continue providing individualized attention from teachers and a focus on personal development. By the time a Bright Light student graduates from the sixth grade, they will be ready to pursue higher levels of
study with confidence.

Adequate technology is still a critical, missing component of Bright Light’s scholastic programming. Equipping both teachers and students with computers is essential to a dynamic learning process. For today’s young people in Kenya, digital skills are woven into the fabric of their lives in every possible social, academic and personal way.

A digital vocabulary and efficiency is a modern fact of life. Our students need access to the wealth of resources technology will bring into their classrooms. Your support in providing these digital tools will significantly enrich our educational programs and empower our students to
build their futures.

A recent generous donation has allowed us to purchase an adjacent empty property where Bright Light Academy’s expansion will take place. Funding from supporters will allow us to build out the  infrastructure for additional classrooms, a multi-use dining hall, a new kitchen, a solar powered water system and secure storage needs. Two additional Smart Farm gardens will be built to supplement dietary needs.

Parents ask us every day if we can admit their primary school age children, but without additional financial resources we are limited. More of Rusinga’s young children need a chance to begin their lives with an education and stay with us through the sixth grade. This is why Bright Light Academy was created. Don’t let them be left behind!
